Hatha, meaning forceful in Sanskrit
Today we understand this to mean that Hatha is more forceful than meditative or restorative practices, but certainly not as active as a Vinyasa Flow class.
A Hatha class includes breathing exercises (pranayama) and the practice of still or static yoga postures to promote the peace of the mind and body and to prepare you for deeper spiritual practices such as the meditation at the end of the session.
This is a relatively gentle class that will allow you to work on your alignment and relaxation techniques, which is great for beginners looking to build confidence and strength in holding these longer poses.
